Best Packs To Open

Which Pokémon TCG Pocket packs give the best value for free-to-play players? Full pack-by-pack breakdown ranked by competitive playables.

How to evaluate a pack

Forget pull rates — they're effectively identical across packs. What actually differs is the density of competitively playable cards inside each set. A pack with 4 meta-defining EX cards beats a pack with 1, full stop.

Below is the current value ranking based purely on what gets played at the top of the ladder.

S-tier — Paradox Ansturm

Single best pack in the game right now. Miraidon EX, Magnezone EX, Zoroark EX and several support trainers anchor 3 of the top 10 competitive decks. If you only have one pack-hour per day to spend, open this one.

A-tier — Mega Evolution

Home to Mega Lucario EX, Mega Sceptile EX and Mega Altaria EX. Mega EXs hit harder than basic EXs but require evolution lines, so total card-count investment is higher. Excellent value, just slightly slower to assemble a deck from.

B-tier — Wisdom of Sea & Sky

Strong tech cards (Suicune EX, Baxcalibur engine) but the core pack lacks a true tier-1 standalone deck. Open after you've finished Paradox Ansturm.

F2P opening priority

Spend your first 30 days exclusively on Paradox Ansturm. Once you have 2 copies each of Miraidon EX and Magnezone EX, rotate to Mega Evolution for Lucario lines, then come back for Zoroark.

Avoid spreading pulls across every pack — you'll end up with three half-finished decks and zero ladder-ready ones.
