Guide

The Rock Lee Fifth Gate deck is built around combining Rock Lee's aggressive cards with a Focus engine that can generate large amounts of Chakra and unlock the full potential of Fifth Gate.

The centerpiece is Rock Lee – Fifth Gate. On deploy, Lee enters Focus(5s). If that Focus succeeds, he gains Chakra(+6) and enables the rest of his skill. Once unlocked, Lee jumps to the first rival card that comes nearby. On each encounter, he applies Weaken(2) to the rival card while also applying Weaken(1) to himself.

That creates a clear risk-and-reward strategy. Fifth Gate has an enormous potential payoff, but Lee first needs to successfully complete his Focus before the aggressive part of the skill becomes available.

Gai Maito – Power of Youth supports the Rock Lee package by giving allied Rock Lee cards Chakra(+2) when they are deployed while Gai is active. Shikamaru – Shogi Master then adds another reward for Focus, while Akahoshi – Deceitful Training modifies allied Focus effects.

The rest of the Rock Lee package gives the deck different ways to create pressure through Rush, encounters, Chakra support and movement, making the deck more than a single Fifth Gate combo.

Strategy — how the deck works

1. Gai Sets Up Rock Lee

Gai Maito – Power of Youth is one of the most important setup cards in the deck.

While Gai is active, allied Rock Lee cards gain:

Chakra(+2) on deployment

With five different Rock Lee cards in the list, Gai can generate value across a large portion of the deck rather than supporting only Fifth Gate.

When possible, establishing Power of Youth before deploying your key Rock Lee cards gives the entire Lee package a stronger starting point.

2. Fifth Gate Is the Main Payoff

Rock Lee – Fifth Gate begins with:

Focus(5s)

If Focus succeeds:

Chakra(+6) → enable the rest of Fifth Gate

Once the remaining skill is enabled, Lee jumps to the first rival card that comes nearby.

On every encounter:

Rival → Weaken(2) Rock Lee → Weaken(1)

This makes Fifth Gate extremely aggressive once unlocked, but the self-Weaken means those encounters also have a cost.

The important part is that the offensive portion of Fifth Gate isn't automatically available on deployment. The Focus must succeed first.

3. Shogi Master Rewards Focus

Shikamaru – Shogi Master gives the deck another reason to build around Focus.

On deploy, Shikamaru:

Pins himself for 10 seconds Chakra(+3)

While active, allied cards gain Chakra(+3) whenever you Pin those allied cards or when they Focus.

That creates a natural interaction with Fifth Gate:

Rock Lee begins Focus → Shogi Master can provide Chakra(+3)

Fifth Gate already has a large Chakra payoff for successfully completing Focus, so Shikamaru gives the deck value at another stage of the Focus sequence.

4. Akahoshi Modifies the Focus Window

Akahoshi – Deceitful Training causes allied Focus effects to gain:

Focus(+4s)

However, there is a cost.

During Focus, allied cards are affected by:

Weaken(1) every 4 seconds

This makes Akahoshi a genuine risk/reward support card rather than a free upgrade.

For Fifth Gate specifically, the interaction is particularly interesting because changing the Focus duration also changes how long Lee must remain in Focus before succeeding.

Because exact timing/order interactions can matter here, I would avoid claiming a specific Fifth Gate + Shogi Master + Akahoshi resolution until it has been confirmed through gameplay.

5. Loopy Fist Gives You a Second Focus Threat

Rock Lee – Loopy Fist creates another natural connection with the Focus package.

Every 12 seconds, Lee enters:

Focus(4s)

If that Focus succeeds, he randomly gains one of:

Rush(3s) Guard(1) Chakra(+1)

On encounter, Loopy Fist also applies:

Weaken(1)

This means your Focus support isn't exclusively dependent on drawing Fifth Gate.

Shikamaru and Akahoshi can still interact with another Rock Lee card in the deck.

6. Protector Punishes Rival Deployments

Rock Lee – Protector is a cheap 2/2 card with a repeatable Rush trigger.

Whenever a rival card is deployed on Protector's lane:

Rush(+3s)

This can repeatedly accelerate Lee depending on how the opponent develops that lane.

Protector therefore gives the deck a cheap pressure card while the more expensive Focus pieces are being established.

7. Love Bomb Supports the Next Ally

Rock Lee – Love Bomb gives:

Chakra(+1) to the next allied card deployed.

While Love Bomb remains active, that ally is also:

lane Switched every 8 seconds.

This can generate additional value but also introduces forced movement, so think carefully about which ally receives the effect.

8. Gai – Reprimand Adds More Chakra

Gai Maito – Reprimand is another way to support your board.

When deployed to Mid Range:

closest lane ally → Chakra(+2) + Pin(2s)

The Chakra is valuable, but it comes with a short Pin.

That creates another possible connection with Shogi Master, whose effect rewards allied cards when you Pin them.

The exact timing of that interaction is worth watching during gameplay rather than assuming it in advance.

9. Jiraiya Adds Another Focus Tool

Jiraiya – Advanced Training can put a lane ally with 3 or less Chakra into:

Focus(8s)

If that Focus succeeds:

Chakra(+3)

This gives you another way to exploit the deck's Focus support and another potential Shogi Master trigger.

It also means the deck can still generate Focus value even when Fifth Gate isn't currently available.

Key Combos Gai → Fifth Gate

Gai – Power of Youth active → deploy Rock Lee – Fifth Gate → Rock Lee receives Chakra(+2) → Fifth Gate begins Focus

This gives your main payoff additional Chakra before its own Focus reward resolves.

Shogi Master → Fifth Gate

Shikamaru active → Fifth Gate enters Focus → Chakra(+3) from Shogi Master → successful Fifth Gate Focus → Chakra(+6)

This is potentially one of the deck's biggest Chakra sequences.

The exact in-game ordering should be confirmed during testing.

Fifth Gate → Encounter Pressure

Focus succeeds → Chakra(+6) → remaining skill enabled → first nearby rival triggers Lee's jump → encounter: rival Weaken(2), Lee Weaken(1)

Once unlocked, Fifth Gate changes from a setup card into an aggressive encounter threat.

Shogi Master → Gai Reprimand

Shogi Master active → Gai – Reprimand Pins allied card → potential Shogi Master Chakra payoff

Again, verify the exact trigger behavior during gameplay before treating this as confirmed.

Shogi Master → Loopy Fist

Loopy Fist enters Focus → Shogi Master rewards Focus → successful Focus provides Loopy Fist's random payoff

This gives you a repeatable secondary Focus interaction beyond Fifth Gate.

Strengths

  • Powerful Fifth Gate Chakra payoff
  • Strong Rock Lee synergy with Gai
  • Multiple Focus effects across the deck
  • Shogi Master can turn Focus into additional Chakra
  • Several different Rock Lee cards provide pressure
  • Protector offers cheap repeatable Rush potential
  • Loopy Fist provides recurring Focus value
  • Good mix of Chakra generation, Rush and Weaken
  • Multiple support cards can benefit more than one Rock Lee
  • Clear high-impact Fifth Gate payoff

Weaknesses

  • Fifth Gate must successfully complete Focus to unlock its full skill
  • Fifth Gate Weakens itself during encounters
  • Akahoshi extends Focus but also repeatedly Weakens allies during Focus
  • Several key support cards are expensive
  • The strongest turns require multiple setup pieces
  • Poor deployment order can reduce Gai's value
  • Love Bomb can force unwanted lane switches
  • Gai Reprimand Pins the ally it gives Chakra to
  • Focus windows can delay immediate pressure
  • Some trigger-order interactions should be confirmed in gameplay

Matchup & gameplay notes

Try to establish Gai before deploying important Rock Lee cards. Power of Youth can turn every later Lee deployment into additional Chakra value.

Don't treat Fifth Gate as fully active immediately. The Focus needs to succeed before Lee unlocks the rest of the skill.

Protect the Fifth Gate Focus when possible. The entire payoff depends on successfully completing it.

Watch Fifth Gate's self-Weaken. Once Lee starts encountering rivals, he damages his own Chakra alongside the opponent's.

Shikamaru is much more than generic support in this deck. Multiple cards Focus, giving Shogi Master several opportunities to generate Chakra.

Akahoshi is not automatically beneficial. Longer Focus creates more time before the Focus succeeds and his effect repeatedly Weakens allies during that window.

Protector becomes more valuable on an active lane. Rival deployments on his lane repeatedly give him additional Rush.

Be careful with Love Bomb's target. The Chakra(+1) is useful, but that ally will continue switching lanes every eight seconds while Love Bomb is active.

Use Reprimand deliberately. Chakra(+2) can be valuable, but Pin(2s) means you're temporarily stopping that ally as part of the trade.
