How the Pokémon TCG Pocket Tier List Works

Decks are ranked by tournament performance, matchup spread, consistency, popularity, and overall meta relevance. We weigh recent tournament finishes (1st, top 4, top 8, top 16) and adjust for tournament size, sample size, and win rate so a single small event cannot inflate a deck's rating.

Best Pokémon TCG Pocket Decks Right Now

Tier S and Tier A decks are the strongest options for ranked and tournament play. Tier S decks have proven results across multiple events and matchups; Tier A decks are close behind and reward strong piloting. If you want to climb fast or grind a tournament weekend, start there and use the linked deck guides to learn the optimal lines.

How Often Is the Tier List Updated?

The tier list is updated regularly as new tournament results, sets, balance changes, and events affect the meta. Major set releases and balance patches trigger a full re-rating; in between, smaller adjustments keep the rankings aligned with the latest competitive data.

Tier List Methodology

How decks are ranked. Every deck on this tier list is scored by a weighted blend of competitive signals rather than a single number. We aggregate recent tournament finishes (1st, top 4, top 8, top 16), opposing field strength and sample size into a Simbozz Meta Score, then sanity-check against ladder win-rate, matchup spread and consistency. Recent results are weighted more heavily than older ones, and small-sample events are discounted so a single 8-player win cannot lift a deck into Tier S.

Data sources. Tournament data is sourced from Limitless TCG and other public Pokémon TCG Pocket tournament platforms. Ladder and matchup notes come from authors actively playing on the live ladder. Card data and set legality are checked against official Pokémon TCG Pocket releases.

Update frequency. The tier list is reviewed continuously and re-rated on every major trigger: new set release, balance change, ban announcement, or major tournament weekend. Smaller in-between adjustments happen as ladder data and tournament results evolve.

Meta evaluation. We don't rank decks in isolation. A new Tier S contender is evaluated by how it interacts with the rest of the top tier — does it beat the current Tier A field, mirror existing strategies, or open a new lane? Tier movement only happens when the data and the matchup picture agree.

FAQ

Tier List Questions

What is the best deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket?+

Tier S decks — currently Mega Altaria EX & Darkrai, Mega Sceptile EX, and Mega Lucario EX with Darkrai — post the strongest tournament finishes and the most favorable matchup spreads on the ladder.

How often is the Pokémon TCG Pocket tier list updated?+

The tier list is reviewed regularly as new tournament results come in, new sets release, and balance changes or events shift the meta. The goal is to keep it accurate within the active competitive cycle.

Are tournament decks different from ranked ladder decks?+

There is a lot of overlap, but tournament lineups often lean more consistent and matchup-aware. Ranked rewards aggressive, fast decks slightly more. Tier S and A choices generally perform in both formats.

Can beginner players use Tier S decks?+

Yes — Tier S decks are strong out of the box. We pair the tier list with full deck guides so newer players can learn the optimal turn-by-turn plan, key matchups, and mulligan decisions.
